We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Rotary Clubs from District 6910, 7020 and community partners in the Bahamas to support the Rotary International effort to Create Hope in the World.
Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia is partnered with Rotary to lead a Girl Empowerment Project focused on period poverty. Period poverty is defined as inadequate access to menstrual hygiene tools and education, including but not limited to sanitary products, washing facilities and waste management. Did you know 1 out of every 10 menstruating youth misses school during their menstrual cycle due to lack of access to menstrual products and resources? Girl Scouts can help!
A team of our girls lead the effort to collect materials and sew reusable sanitary napkins for girls who have limited access to resources. Our Girl Scouts journeyed with Rotary to Nassau and work side-by-side with fellow Girl Guides in Nassau and Rotarians to plant a sunflower garden, identify and label native plants at a Girl Guide camp, assemble 384 period hygiene kits, and write notes of affirmation for girls receiving the kits. The Girl Guides from Nassau and District 7020 Rotarians will collaborate to distribute to girls in need in the Nassau community and put the systems and partners in place to ensure this project’s long-term sustainability. What a wonderful way for Girl Scouts to support Rotary International’s Girl Empowerment initiative and directly assist with the child and maternal health priority!
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this project. We could not have done it without your support!
