Girl Scout Trips and Travel Opportunities

Girl Scouts love to travel! Girl Scouts provides ample opportunities for girls in grades K-12 to explore their communities and other cultures through travel and exploration. By building a progressive program, girls develop skills that help them be successful in each new experience from setting up their own tent to meeting Girl Scouts in other countries. Girl Scout travel follows a progressive model, helping girls build confidence and skills at every stage—from setting up their own tents to planning international trips. Whether it’s a local field trip, overnight camping adventure, or international Girl Scout destination, every experience helps girls grow as travelers, leaders, and global citizens. Troop Trip Applications are required any time a troop meets outside of its regularly scheduled day, time, or location (see Operational Volunteer Policies & Procedures – Policy 1.30).

Examples:

If your troop normally meets at the library on Tuesday evenings but wants to meet at the fire department, you must complete a Troop Trip Application.
If your troop normally meets on Tuesday evenings but needs to move meetings to a different day (even at the same location), you must complete a Troop Trip Application.

Why this is required:

Girl Safety – Applications help us ensure every activity is planned with the safety of girls in mind.
Insurance Coverage – All participants in Girl Scouts of the USA are automatically covered under the Basic Activity Accident Insurance during approved and supervised Girl Scout activities. If a trip is not approved, the coverage does not apply.
Financial Accountability – Troop funds may only be used for approved Girl Scout activities. When you submit your Detailed Cash Record, staff review accounts to prevent fraud and ensure funds are used properly. If a trip is not approved, your account may be flagged, and you may be required to reimburse funds.

Important Information for Travel

All participants must be currently registered Girl Scout members. Chaperones are required to be registered volunteers who have completed all necessary background checks. Every trip must include at least one adult member who is certified in First Aid/CPR.

Be sure to review the Safety Activity Checkpoints that apply to your planned activities, and ensure each attendee has a current Health History form on file.

Troop Trip Applications - Day and Overnight toggle arrow

Troop Trip Applications are required any time a troop meets outside of its regularly scheduled day, time, or location (see Operational Volunteer Policies & Procedures – Policy 1.30).

There are two types of troop trips: Day Trips and Overnight Trips.

Each has its own submission timeline:

Day Trips: Submit at least 2 weeks before the trip date.
Overnight Trips: Submit at least 4 weeks before the start date.

Applications submitted after these deadlines may be considered at the discretion of council staff; however, approval is not guaranteed.

Fill out a Troop Trip Application - 2 weeks prior for field trips and day trips and 4 weeks prior for overnight trips
Girl Health History and Permission Slip for each girl attending
Adult Health History Form for each adult attending
Volunteer Driver Form approved and on-file for drivers

Only registered, background-checked, approved volunteers (age 21+), with a safe driving record, valid license, and a registered/insured vehicle may transport girls on Girl Scout trips or activities (see Safety Activity Checkpoints, Transporting Girl Scouts).

A GSHG Volunteer Driver Form is required whenever a volunteer is transporting a child other than their own.

Each driver must have an approved Volunteer Driver Form on file before transporting girls.

International Trips (Cadettes & older) toggle arrow

Travel around the world, often requiring one or two years of preparation. International trips are available to Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors who have successfully participated in a progression of overnight trips through Girl Scouts. What you’ll need:

1. Fill out an International Troop Trip – Intent to Travel online or use our paper form* at least 12 months prior to departure
2. Girl Health History and Permission Slip for each girl attending (must be notarized)
3. Adult Health History Form for each adult attending

4. Supplemental insurance is no longer required for international trips to ensure all participants are covered for accidents plus sickness while traveling outside the United States.

As of October 1, 2025, the supplemental insurance form that was once required for troop travel is no longer needed. All participants at Girl Scouts-related events are now automatically covered by insurance. In case of an accident or injury at a Girl Scout-related event, please contact council.

New York City is calling, and Girl Scouts are answering!

Get ready for an unforgettable adventure in the city that never sleeps! From the dazzling lights of Times Square to the breathtaking views atop the Empire State Building, this Girl Scout getaway is packed with iconic landmarks, incredible experiences, Broadway magic, and memories that will last a lifetime.

We'll kick off our adventure aboard an overnight train from Savannah to New York City, where the excitement begins the moment we arrive!

Walk across the legendary Brooklyn Bridge, discover powerful stories of history and resilience at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, explore the wonders of the American Museum of Natural History, and soak up the energy of Central Park and Fifth Avenue.

And what's a trip to NYC without a little Broadway magic?

Step into the spotlight with an exclusive Broadway classroom experience led by theater professionals! Discover what it takes to bring a Broadway production to life, learn from industry experts, and experience the excitement of performing arts firsthand.

Then it's showtime! Our travelers will have the opportunity to vote for the Broadway production they'd like to see: Wicked or SIX! Will we defy gravity with the witches of Oz or rock out with the six queens of history? The choice is yours!

Your Investment in Adventure: $2,050 per Person

Registration & Payment Details

Deposit: $200 per person to reserve your spot
Nonrefundable portion: $100 of the initial deposit
Payment plan: Six equal payments of $310 per person beginning December 15
Final payment deadline: May 15, 2027

Pricing is based on four travelers sharing a hotel room.

Who Can Join the Adventure?

This exciting NYC experience is open to Girl Scout troops and individual Girl Scouts traveling with their responsible adult.

Want to join the adventure but need a council chaperone? Girl Scouts 8th grade or older interested in traveling with a council chaperone are welcome to register. An additional $100 fee will be applied on the last payment. Total cost $2,150.
