On July 18, the Crawford County Commissioners approved the development of a rock quarry near Camp Martha Johnston in a 3-2 vote. While we are disappointed in the outcome of the vote, we are incredibly proud of the Girl Scouts, volunteers, parents, staff members, and other concerned citizens who voiced their concerns and advocated for an issue that we all care deeply about. It will likely be several months before any work begins at the site of the quarry, but the council is committed to ensuring the safety of Girl Scouts at Camp Martha Johnston for years to come. We will share any relevant updates as we learn more. Thank you, once again, for your support in this matter.
Even though the vote has passed, you can still learn more about the impacts of rock quarries and how to advocate for causes that are important to you!
