Step into the wild and challenge yourself at Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia’s annual Into the Woods Trail Run, an exciting outdoor, five kilometers race hosted at Camp Martha Johnston in Lizella, Georgia! Set against the backdrop of our beautiful camp property and winding trails, this event invites runners of all ages and abilities to connect with nature! The diverse woods of Camp Martha Johnston (CMJ) is a peaceful 165-acre camp in the heart of Crawford County that has been owned and operated by Girl Scouts since 1925.
Whether you’re an experienced trail runner or just looking for a fun outdoor activity, Into the Woods Trail Run is open to everyone - businesses, families, military personnel, troops, and friend groups.
This is our invitation to share the Middle Georgia treasure that is Camp Martha Johnston!
All proceeds from the Into the Woods Trail Run go toward supporting Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia, empowering young girls to build courage, confidence, and character as they learn new skills, make lasting friendships, and become leaders in their communities.

Gainesville Woman of Distinction (See you in 2027! - Gainesville, GA)
Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia is proud to announce that Kelly Anne Miles has been selected as the 2026 Gainesville Woman of Distinction.
Kelly will be honored during a special luncheon on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Ramsey Conference Center (2535 Lanier Tech Dr. Gainesville, GA). Proceeds support Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia.
The Girl Scouts Woman of Distinction award honors a woman who reflects the values in the Girl Scout Promise and Law and who serves as an excellent role model for girls. Carol has been chosen for her outstanding leadership and impactful contributions to the community, exemplifying the spirit of service and empowerment.
Kelly, a nationally respected family law attorney, has dedicated more than 40 years advocating for Georgia families both inside and outside the courtroom. Beyond her professional accomplishments, she has invested deeply in strengthening the Gainesville-Hall County community. She is a founding and diamond member of WomenSource, Inc. and has served on the boards of many other civic and community organizations, including United Way of Hall County, Girls Incorporated of Northeast Georgia, North Georgia Community Foundation, Rape Response, Inc., Gateway House Domestic Violence Shelter, and Elachee Nature Science Center.
As a Girl Scout alum, Kelly exemplifies the lifelong impact of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Her commitment to service, justice, and community echoes the values she learned as a young Girl Scout—values she now models for girls across Georgia.

The Girl Scouts Women of Distinction Award honors women who reflect the values in the Girl Scout Promise and Law and who serve as excellent role models for girls. These women exemplify the mission of Girl Scouts as their contributions continue to make their communities and the world a better place.
This year, we are proud to honor Dr. Kia L. Chambers, Susan Gallagher, Geniece R. Granville, and Buffy Swinehart as the Columbus Women of Distinction. They will be honored at special dinner on May 7, 2026 from 6:00-8:30 p.m at Columbus State University's Cunningham Center. Buffy Swinehart
Buffy Swinehart is Aflac’s Corporate Social Responsibility Senior Manager. She joined Aflac in 2001, and in her role, Buffy has helped raise more than $195 million for Aflac’s chief philanthropic cause, childhood cancer and blood disorders. She proactively identifies and develops strategic philanthropic initiatives, oversees the Aflac and Aflac Childhood Cancer Foundations, and integrates the CSR into Aflac’s brand by engaging key stakeholders including employees, sales agents, brokers, policyholders, influencers, general public, analysts and regulators. Buffy raises public awareness of Aflac’s commitment to childhood cancer through the Aflac Childhood Cancer Campaign, which includes My Special Aflac Duck® and additional issue leadership activities. Buffy is responsible for maintaining an effective program for employee volunteers through solicitation and evaluation of volunteer opportunities and communication within the employee base as well as reporting accumulated hours for internal use and as benchmark with outside organizations.
Buffy serves on the Young Life Board and volunteers with Young Lives, providing childcare for teenage moms. She has been married to Steven for more than 30 years and has two sons, Trent (25) and James (21).
Geniece R. Granville
Geniece Granville, formerly Geniece Davis, is the proud daughter of Cheryl and Gregory Davis Sr. Geniece is no stranger to Columbus, having been raised in this city and graduating from Hardaway High School in 1996. From there, she earned her B.A. in Political Science from Spelman College, where she served as Student Government President and was a member of the Spelman Board of Trustees. After college, Geniece interned with Congressman John Lewis and later served as the History, Black College, and University Director for the Al Gore Presidential Campaign in Nashville, TN. She graduated from the University of Georgia Law School in Athens, GA, where she served on the Honor Board and was part of an award-winning Mock Trial Team. Geniece obtained her Juris Doctorate in 2004 and married her loving husband, Donovan Granville Sr., later that year. Together, they have two sons, Donovan Granville Jr. and David Granville. After law school, Geniece practiced law for six years as a Senior Assistant District Attorney in the Fulton County District Attorney’s office. While working in various divisions, she was most passionate about her work in the Crimes Against Women and Children unit. Within her first two years at the D.A.’s office, she was recognized as the Young Attorney of the Year. During her time there, Geniece also volunteered with the Legal Lives Program, serving as a mentor to elementary students.
Dr. Kia L. Chambers
Dr. Kia Chambers is a distinguished leader in education, real estate, and community service with more than 20 years of experience in leadership, marketing, and operations. A successful real estate broker and strategic community advocate, she has served in numerous civic leadership roles, including District 3 Representative for the Georgia School Boards Association, Immediate Past President of the Columbus Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, Past President of the North Columbus Rotary Club, trustee for Historic Columbus, and board member for the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce. In 2013, she was elected to the Muscogee County School Board, where she currently continues to serve as the Citywide Representative. Throughout her tenure, she has worked collaboratively with district leadership, educators, and the community to strengthen academic outcomes and expand opportunities for students. Dr. Chambers holds a PhD from Auburn University, along with advanced degrees from Troy State University, and a Bachelor of Science from Albany State University. Her commitment to service and leadership has earned her numerous honors, and she is the founder of initiatives such as the Women’s Empowerment & Self-Care Brunch, the Kia for Kids Scholarship Program, and the Gold Star Teacher Appreciation Initiative, all reflecting her dedication to strengthening communities and empowering future leaders.
Susan Gallagher
Susan Gallagher assumed the role of Chief Financial Officer at New Horizons Behavioral Health August 1, 2023 after working with the agency in various capacities since January 2001. She is maintaining responsibility for Grants Management as well as oversight of Marketing. She assumed the position as Grants Manager with New Horizons Behavioral Health in 2016. With over 30 years fiscal and management experience with State, Local Government and Not-For-Profit Organizations, she brings attention to detail and a sense of accountability to every endeavor, whether professional or personal.

Sherry Feathers has dedicated her life to Girl Scouting and community service since first joining in 1952. After moving to Savannah, she spent decades creating meaningful leadership opportunities for girls — from producing a 75th anniversary Girl Scouting documentary and leading a sailboat voyage to the Bahamas to mentoring Girl Scouts through major community initiatives and service projects. Named a 2014 Woman of Distinction by Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia, Sherry’s legacy is rooted in empowering young people, modeling perseverance, and strengthening her community through a lifelong commitment to Girl Scouts.
Donna Orender,
Keynote Speaker
Donna Orender is a passionate leader and changemaker dedicated to helping women and girls reach their full potential through sports, business, and community. A former WNBA Commissioner and PGA TOUR executive, she now serves as CEO of Orender Unlimited and founder of the Upshot League, a new professional women’s basketball league expanding opportunities for female athletes. She also founded Generation W, a nonprofit that connects and inspires women and girls to lead with confidence and purpose. Recognized as one of the Top 10 Most Powerful Women in Sports, Donna continues to champion leadership, teamwork, and the power of possibility—values that reflect the Girl Scout mission.

Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia will host the annual More Than Cookies fundraiser on August 6, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Fall Line Brewing Co. in Macon, GA. This fun-filled end-of-summer event will feature beer flight tasting, heavy hors d’ oeuvres, raffle prizes, and live music. Additionally, everyone will the opportunity to enter a raffle for exciting prizes donated from some of our cherished community partners and businesses.
Each ticket includes four Fall Line craft beers paired with four Girl Scout Cookies, as well as heavy hors d' oeurvres. There will also be cookies available for purchase on site.

The Clementi L. Holder Promises to Keep Breakfast is an annual fundraiser in the Athens area to support Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia. Presented by The Holder Family Foundation, the breakfast lasts about an hour and gives us the chance to build lasting relationships with current and potential donors. It also gives us a chance to show donors how their contributions support the Girl Scout mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Not only do we have current Girl Scouts attend the event, but we also bring in an alumna to talk about the difference Girl Scouts has made on her life and in her career.

S'morevivor Team Challenge (See you in 2027! - Augusta, GA)

Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia is hosting the next annual S’morevivor Team Challenge Event on September 12, 2026. S’morevivor will be held at Girl Scout Camp Tanglewood (1000 Shepherd Way Grovetown, GA) featuring our community favorite - the Team Challenge! This year's Team Challenge is $125 per team and includes an exclusive S'morevivor buff for each participant!
THE EVENT
A community open house at our local Girl Scout camp consisting of a variety of activities for participants. There will be a four-person team challenge to tackle fun outdoor skills at stations throughout the camp (canoeing, archery, low ropes course, etc.)
THE CAUSE
Funds raised through this annual event will support programming for girls in Georgia from Kindergarten to 12th grade and provide them with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Girl Scouts provides a wide variety of opportunities for girls to prepare for a lifetime of leadership through badge work, career exploration, hands-on activities, community service, entrepreneurial endeavors, outdoor adventures, life skills training, and STEM programming.
WHO ATTENDS?
S’morevivor is open to everyone in the CSRA- businesses, families, military personnel, troops, and friend groups. The team challenge event provides an excellent opportunity for team building in a fun, challenging, and competitive way. These physical and mental challenges create strong teams, heighten creativity, and build partnerships.
There are three divisions in the team challenge- corporate, community, and Girl Scout troop - with prizes and trophies for top finishers. The first place corporate team receives not only bragging rights, but a large trophy engraved with the winning business name to display for a year!
