The American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED teaches lifeguards the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to emergencies in a public swimming pool or GSHG pool on one of our camp properties. This is a two-year certification, recognized across the United States. This will be a hybrid class with online learning that must be done ahead of the in-person training at CMJ.
Location: Camp Martha Johnston- 1500 Girl Scout Rd., Lizella, GA 31052.
Time of class: 6-9 PM on Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM on Saturday, and 8 AM - finish on Sunday. Class begins promptly at 8 AM each day. You are not required to spend the night, but if you need overnight accommodations we may be able to provide them. Please reach out to bconnell@gshg.org for more information.
Pre-requisites: Must be 15 years old, able to swim 300 yards continuously, and be able to tread water for two minutes. Must complete the online portion of class ahead of the in-person training.
What to bring: Notebook for taking notes, sack lunch and snacks, swim gear and towels, water bottle.
Cost is $200. Service scholarships are available for those who commit to serve as lifeguards for Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia events, or for those who will work at GSHG summer camp this year. Contact Betsy Connell at bconnell@gshg.org or 470-208-3664.
