Girl Scout Trips and Travel Opportunities
Girl Scouts love to travel! Girl Scouts provides ample opportunities for girls in grades K-12 to explore their communities and other cultures through travel and exploration. By building a progressive program, girls develop skills that help them be successful in each new experience from setting up their own tent to meeting Girl Scouts in other countries. Girl Scout travel follows a progressive model, helping girls build confidence and skills at every stage—from setting up their own tents to planning international trips. Whether it’s a local field trip, overnight camping adventure, or international Girl Scout destination, every experience helps girls grow as travelers, leaders, and global citizens. Troop Trip Applications are required any time a troop meets outside of its regularly scheduled day, time, or location (see Operational Volunteer Policies & Procedures – Policy 1.30).
Examples:
- If your troop normally meets at the library on Tuesday evenings but wants to meet at the fire department, you must complete a Troop Trip Application.
- If your troop normally meets on Tuesday evenings but needs to move meetings to a different day (even at the same location), you must complete a Troop Trip Application.
Why this is required:
- Girl Safety – Applications help us ensure every activity is planned with the safety of girls in mind.
- Insurance Coverage – All participants in Girl Scouts of the USA are automatically covered under the Basic Activity Accident Insurance during approved and supervised Girl Scout activities. If a trip is not approved, the coverage does not apply.
- Financial Accountability – Troop funds may only be used for approved Girl Scout activities. When you submit your Detailed Cash Record, staff review accounts to prevent fraud and ensure funds are used properly. If a trip is not approved, your account may be flagged, and you may be required to reimburse funds.
