Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia is pleased to offer the following program opportunities for Girl Scout Juniors ( girls in 4 th and 5 th grades ) for Fall 2013. Events are listed in chronological order.

  • District Girl Scout Bronze Award Training
    JuniorGrades 4-5

    ​Bronze award is the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can earn. It is also the first high award leading her pathway to Gold.  Award training is not required for this award but we do offer a training for those girls and Troop leaders who would like to receive training in the Bronze award. The cost for these classes is $5 per girl and includes the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia Award Planner.  Leaders/advisors are invited to attend at no charge.

  • Bronze Award Training
    JuniorGrades 4-5

    ​Training is required for girls working on their Girl Scout Gold or Silver Awards.  Bronze training is not required, but is recommended. Girls and adults are welcome at trainings. Cost is $5 per girl and includes materials. Awards training is free for adults.

  • Get Moving with Horses
    JuniorGrades 4-5CadetteGrades 6-8

    ​Attention Juniors and Cadettes…The Grove River Ranch Presents “Get Moving with Horses.” It’s a 2-hour workshop for Junior and Cadette horse fans! Take a tour of the exquisite modern horse ranch that is different from any other. Learn about daily feeding, turnout, stall cleaning, and the several disciplines of riding horses. This workshop will surely be an exciting adventure.  For an additional fee, die-heart horse fans can plan to lodge and cook-out at the ranch for a one of a kind “girl scout” camping experience. That’s not all… earn your “horse fan” badge to show to others.  This experience will be a treat to remember.

  • Music All Around Me

    ​Everyone loves music! Have fun discovering how music is made, learning musical terms and writing your own lyrics. Could this be the start of your career as a song writer? Girls will complete activities to earn the “Musician” badge in the Junior Girl Guide.

  • Signing For the World to See - Part 2

    ​Do you know American Sign Language? Learn to communicate with people who speak this special language and who want to be your friends. Learn the Girl Scout Promise and Law and Girl Scout songs in sign language. Tamecia K. Wright, an interpreter who is skilled in making learning fun, will be your dynamic instructor. This is a three- part series; in this session, you’ll learn the Girl Scout Law and simple sentences about Girl Scouts to communicate in sign language. This inspiring program will open a whole new world of communication to you! Snacks available.

  • Session 1T Troop Camp: We are Family-Fun with your Girl Scout Sisters

  • Session 2 Resident Camp: CMJ's Junior Got Talent
    JuniorGrades 4-5

    What aMUSEs you?  Want to learn to fly a plane or lead a rock band?  What about earning an Olympic medal? Do you want to be the first woman president?  This week, the choice is yours and the sky’s the limit!  We’ll learn about stereotypes, then visit women who are breaking them down. We’ll try on costumes, then write and design a show to perform for our parents. Of course, camp wouldn’t be the same without swimming and s’mores.  By the end of the week you will have completed the It’s Your Story – Tell It! Journey.

  • Session 2 Resident Camp: Water Cycle Week- Spindrifting
    JuniorGrades 4-5

    ​Ready for a bike and canoeing adventure? Enjoy two off- camp biking trips and experience two different water activities. You’ll learn how to canoe and kayak, and use your skills on a half day trip down the Flint River, where we’ll look for one of the famous Blue Holes. We’ll bike on a Columbus bike trail and end the
    day white water rafting down the Chattahoochee River! Bring your own bike and helmet; your bike should work well and be the right size. Girls will work on the “Staying Fit” skills badge.

    ​Join girls from across Georgia to share evidence and collaborate in teams close the case – The Case of the Missing Counselor! Experts will teach you how to cast a tire track, perform hair analysis and analyze fingerprints. Girls will also complete requirements to earn the Detective badge, Harriet the Spy style! Camp staples like swimming, archery, and canoeing are on the list, too!

  • Session 2 Resident Camp: Saddles, Paddles and Arrows
    JuniorGrades 4-5CadetteGrades 6-8SeniorGrades 9-10

    ​Each day you’ll make your way to Foxboro Farms to develop your riding technique, and learn proper handling and grooming of a horse. After lunch you’ll learn how to tip a canoe – on purpose! Hone your skills in archery, and lead younger girls using what you’ve learned. This session is for beginner riders. On Friday, girls
    will have the opportunity to meet the hounds that Foxboro takes fox hunting and walk them out on horseback. Horse instruction provided by the trained and professional staff at Foxboro Farms.

  • Session 3 Resident Camp: Junior-I Heart Camp!
    JuniorGrades 4-5

    ​Celebrate friendship while we explore all that camp has to offer.  We’ll practice basic canoeing skills as we prepare for a canoeing trip to Lake Tobesofkee. We’ll cook a meal over the campfire
    and sleep under the stars in tents that you learn how to set up yourself. You’ll create some fabulous art projects to take home
    and enjoy the best camp has to offer!

  • Session 3T: Troop Camp- Amazing Race Troop Camp

    ​Put your troop’s camping skills to the test for a chance to win a free weekend at Camp Okitayakani! We’ll teach, then test and time eight Girl Scout camping skills. The troop who completes their skills challenge in the least amount of time wins! You’ll learn knot tying, fire making, outdoor cooking, knife skills, outdoor manners, first aid, how to dress for the outdoors, how to follow trails and what to do if you get lost. We’ll be sure to make time for swimming and making crafts. too. Bring your swaps to share with other troops

  • Session 3 Day or Resident Camp: Junior Glamping
    JuniorGrades 4-5

    ​It’s called glamping, a new word for a new kind of glamorous camping. Imagine walking into a cabin lit by candles (of the flameless variety) with mints on your pillow and tapestry draping the walls. Spend the week “glamping-out” your space (you’ll get to take all your DIY projects home with you!). In the process, girls will become their own interior designers. Camp staples like swimming, archery, and canoeing are on the list, too!

    ​Our campers will enjoy a daily ground lesson and horseback ride (Monday–Thursday) at Good Sheppard Riding Academy, which is a short van ride from camp. This will be our third season with Good Sheppard and their great riding staff. When not riding, girls will enjoy horse-themed crafts, skits, songs, and swimming.   • Session 5 Resident Camp: She's Got a Ticket to Ride Week- Boots & Saddles For Advanced Beginner Riders

    ​Enjoy daily riding lessons and barn lessons (Monday–Friday) as you work to improve your horsemanship. You’ll gain more control while trotting, then put your new skills to work playing 4-H games on horseback. When you aren’t hanging out with the horses, you’ll get to cool off in the pool and enjoy other traditional camp activities.     ​Ready for a biking and canoeing adventure? Enjoy two off- camp biking trips and experience two different water activities.  You’ll learn how to canoe or just brush up on your canoeing skills.
    Enjoy white water rafting on the Chattahoochee River, biking the trails at Callaway Gardens, and swimming at Callaway’s Aqua Land. Bring your own bike and helmet; your bike should work well and be the right size.   Juniors will work on the “Staying Fit” skills badge.  Cadettes will work on the “Trailblazing” badge.

  • Session 6 Day or Resident Camp: Wading and Wheeling- Junior
    JuniorGrades 4-5

    ​Bike your way through the week on the island. Campers will bring their own bikes (cruiser, mountain, or road) to traverse the land and learn basic bicycle safety and maintenance. Remember
    your helmet! On the water, girls will receive introductory level instruction on a stand-up paddleboard – riding out the sum- mer on an oversized surfboard – and learn about the ecology of
    the marsh around them. Camp staples like swimming, archery, and rock wall are on the list, too! Qualifications: Girls must be able to pass a basic swim test and ride a bike without assistance (no training wheels allowed).

    ​It’s called glamping, a new word for a new kind of glamorous camping. Imagine walking into a cabin lit by candles (of the flameless variety) with mints on your pillow and tapestry draping the walls. Spend the week “glamping-out” your space (you’ll get to take all your DIY projects home with you!). In the process, girls will become their own interior designers. Camp staples like the pool, archery, and rock wall are on the list, too!
