Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia is pleased to offer the following program opportunities for Girl Scout Daisies ( girls in kindergarten and 1 st grade) for Fall 2013. Events are listed in chronological order.

  • Daisies in Wonderland
    Grades K-1

    ​Come out for a day of wonder and fun with your favorite Girl Scout!  This is a day for girls and  their female guardian to explore Wonderland, play croquet with the Queen and have tea at the Mad Hatter’s and have a sewing lesson from the Royal Dressmaker!  Bring a colorful pillowcase to turn into a new dress!

    ​Under the Big Top!  Girl Scouts of all ages will experience all camping has to offer with this circus theme!  From canoeing to swimming and archery, we’ll do it all under the big top.  You’ll be able to choose between some circus skills (depending on the girls' age) like juggling, acro dancing, hooping, stage combat, flag spinning, a few magic tricks, knife throwing, hand balancing, clowning and making balloon animals.  And then, we’ll cap off the weekend by having our very own carnival on Saturday night.

  • Mad Camp Skills - Session 1 - Camp Tanglewood
    Grades K-1Grades 2-3Grades 4-5

    ​Want to learn how to build a fire, cook a meal outside, use a compass, read a map, paddle a canoe… become a survivor!  We’ll take this time to connect with our pioneering spirit and learn how to do it for ourselves.  You’ll also enjoy the thrills of taking on the challenge course, shooting a rifle (Juniors), building a shelter in the woods and so much more.  Give it a try and we’ll give you some skills to lead your family back into the woods and thrive.

    ​Are you an artist?  If not, do you want to be?  At camp we will explore the fine arts from pottery to jewelry to making our very own stained glass. We’ll learn how to create our very own books and use them to do some nature journaling.  And you’ll get to experiment with different mediums such as charcoal and oil paints.  Brownie program will be slightly modified for age appropriateness.

  • Color my World - Session 1 - Camp Martha Johnston
    Grades K-1Grades 2-3

    ​Color my World – Do you love pink or are you more of a purple sorta girl?  Maybe you like orange or blue instead.  Whatever your favorite color is we’ll spend our time at camp learning where rainbows come from and make a few of our own.  We’ll learn about the water cycle and why water is so important to making colors.  Celebrating a stay at camp about colors wouldn’t be complete without making a tie-dye shirt! On Friday we’ll experience our very own “color run” GSHG style.  We’ll have rainbow themed snacks while enjoying traditional camp activities like swimming, singing and hiking.

  • Splish, Splash! - Session 2 - Camp Martha Johnston

    ​Come spend a week with us in the water.  We will learn new water games, go splashing down the slip ‘n slide and also learn about why water is so important to the earth and our bodies.  With water themed crafts like exploding paint we’ll have a ball splashing around camp.  By the end of the week we’ll have completed the It’s your planet – love it! journey. From the earth to the sky and everything in between you’ll learn to love the amazing powers of our planet!

    ​Are you all tied up in knots?  From the human knot to twister, macramé to crochet, we’ll spend the week exploring the fine art of yarn and string crafts and why it’s important to know how to tie different types of knots.  We’ll learn how to make a recycled rug and design a unique string art creation. With choices from yarn dolls to learning how to weave plastic canvas you’re sure to find something you’ll enjoy.  You just might even find a new hobby.  In addition we’ll spend time in the pool, learning archery and canoeing and celebrate our creations with an art show.

  • Let Art Tell the Story - Session 4A- Camp Okitayakani

    ​Every type of art tells a story, as artists express their feelings and reveal a little about themselves through their art.  During this week campers will design and develop creative art projects.  Campers will work in many forms of art; leather work, pottery, papermaking, jewelry design, singing and songwriting, as well as writing.  Girls will also explore great artists and their famous works of art, as we complete the It’s your Story Tell It Journey.  And since we live our own personal story every day, we will add adventure, comedy, and new friends as we swim, canoe, and sing around the campfire.

    ​Some families spend the 4th of July Holiday at a family picnic or cook out.  Some spend it at the beach. But wherever your family plans to spend the holiday, be ready to teach and lead them in a variety of fun outdoor games and activities, and make this year’s 4th of July the best ever! Come to camp and master skills in bocce ball, croquet, horseshoes, corn hole, and many more.  This mini week will be one big camp party!  In true camp fashion we’ll offer swimming, canoeing and archery (Daisy and Brownie Girl Scouts will have alternative activities to these last two.).  Lastly we’ll wrap up the session with a Fourth of July style picnic lunch on Wednesday afternoon.

  • Animal Lovers - Session 6 - Camp Martha Johnston

    Are you an animal lover?  Come to camp where we’ll explore all kinds of animals.  We’ll learn the difference between nocturnal and diurnal creatures and why bugs like spiders and snakes are good for our environment. We’ll play games and do crafts with an animal theme.  Be prepared to get wet as we explore the microscopic creatures of the creek.​
