Some of the most cherished memories that many of us have are those made while camping. Family camping, hiking, canoeing, backpacking, Girl Scout Camp, and day camps all have served to provide thousands of us with laughter, challenges, skills, and rewarding experiences. Girl Scouting gave us the opportunity to have these experiences. But GSHG's wonderful camps need some tender loving care in order to preserve these wonderful resources. High materials costs, fewer adults with camping skills, a decrease in volunteers, aging buildings and facilities, cut-backs in paid staff members due largely to the economic slump, and efforts to keep camp affordable to all Girl Scouts have resulted in a critical need for help, and WE NEED YOU.Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia is looking for Girl Scout associated moms, dads, grandparents, and responsible older girl volunteers to help bring Camp Low back up to its former glory. Located in the birthplace of Girl Scouting and on a beautiful, limited access island, Camp Low offers over 325 acres of live-oak sheltered camping facilities and another 800+ acres of coastal marsh land available to all Girl Scouts. The camp can host approximately 150 campers in both cabin camping and platform tent settings; there is also a stilt cabin area, and lots of space for tent camping. We need carpenters, painters, electricians, plumbers, and willing workers to come and lend a hand. We invite you to join the Friends of Camp Low as a volunteer, and come spend the weekend or even a day helping us refresh our beloved camp. Grab your sleeping bag, hammer, work gloves, and bug spray and come share a fun, service-oriented weekend with us! The following designated camp work weekends remain:January 10-12, 2014February 28-March 2, 2014May 30-June 1, 2014 - please note new date!Click here for the Friends of Camp Low Volunteer Registration Form!
